I received my MA in Literature from the University of Colorado-Boulder and my PhD in Medieval Literature from the University of Washington. From 1997-2014, I taught literature and writing courses at the following institutions:
- University of Washington
- University of Colorado-Boulder
- Metropolitan State College of Denver (now Metropolitan State University)
- North Seattle Community College
- Edmonds Community College/Creative Retirement Institute
Copywriting & Editorial Work
I spent twenty years focused on copywriting and editorial writing for a variety of clients and industries, ranging from outdoor recreation to the coffee industry, real estate to fashion. I counted Starbucks, Eddie Bauer, Cascade Designs (MSR, Therm-a-Rest, Platypus), Brooks Running, Zillow and others among my clients.
On the editorial side, my publications included numerous stories for print and web, ghostwritten articles, newsletters and blogs. The most fun writing assignments were the adventure travel stories I wrote for mountain bike magazines.
Here are a few projects I particularly enjoyed, including the first book I wrote, a centennial history of a Seattle trade union:
